Oracy

Intent

At Holbrook Primary School, we are committed to nurturing the holistic development of our students, enabling them to live 'life in all its fullness,'John 10:10. Our Oracy Curriculum is designed with the belief that effective communication is fundamental to this vision and therefore is thoughtfully designed, drawing upon evidence-based practices rooted in extensive research, including valuable insights from Voice 21 and the comprehensive report from the Oracy All-Party Parliamentary Group Inquiry (April 2021). We have structured our Oracy Curriculum into four interconnected strands: Physical, Linguistic, Cognitive, and Social and Emotional, to not only ensure our pupils achieve the requirements outlined in the National Curriculum but to empower them with the skills and confidence to thrive in an ever-changing world. Whilst the objectives in the National Curriculum link with our English Curriculum, it is also a crucial skill across all subjects, as well as being linked to behaviour, attitudes and wellbeing and that’s why we aim to improve the oracy of all of our pupils right across the curriculum. To find out more about Oracy at Holbrook, have a look at our progression document below or visit each foundation subject page to find out how oracy is promoted school-wide.
